Liability coverage is mandatory
As a motorcyclist, you must have at least liability insurance, which covers damages you cause to others. In addition, you can choose partial (Teilkasko) or comprehensive (Vollkasko) coverage to protect your own bike:
Partial coverage: Covers theft, fire, hail, or collisions with wild animals
Comprehensive coverage: Also pays for damages to your motorcycle if you cause an accident yourself
Lower premiums through discounts and no-claims years
Motorcycle insurance offers premium discounts for certain groups, such as women, civil servants, garage parkers, and low-mileage riders. Like car insurance, no-claims discounts reward accident-free driving, reducing liability premiums to as low as 25% of the standard rate over time.
Save on premiums with a cheaper insurer
New riders or those with a low no-claims discount may face higher premiums. Young riders especially benefit from comparing offers and switching to a more affordable provider. The deadline to cancel the old policy is November 30.
