Finding the right coverage
Like other motor vehicles, your motorhome needs insurance. Liability insurance is legally required and covers damages you cause to others while driving your motorhome.
Partial coverage (Teilkasko): Covers damage to your motorhome from fire, theft, break-ins, storm, hail, lightning, and flooding.
Comprehensive coverage (Vollkasko): Pays even if your motorhome is damaged or destroyed in an accident you cause yourself, providing full protection.
Comprehensive coverage offers convenient all-around protection
Premiums for motorhome insurance vary widely between providers. If you want to switch to a more affordable insurer, you can cancel your current policy at the end of the insurance year with one month’s notice. For example, if your contract is to end on December 31, your cancellation must reach the insurer by November 30.

Caravan insurance: liability coverage is especially affordable
Liability insurance for caravans is particularly inexpensive because when attached, the caravan is already covered by the towing vehicle’s liability insurance. Caravan insurance mainly covers damages caused when the caravan is not attached, for example, if you maneuver it by hand and accidentally damage someone else’s property.
Consider comprehensive coverage for high-value caravans
Partial coverage (Teilkasko): Protects your caravan against theft, fire, break-ins, storm, lightning, hail, and flooding.
Comprehensive coverage (Vollkasko): Adds protection for damages caused by accidents you cause yourself.
Premiums for partial or comprehensive coverage depend on the value and model of your caravan and vary significantly between insurers. Like in car insurance, long-term accident-free policies receive higher discounts in both caravan liability and comprehensive coverage.
